There’s loads of kindness and generosity from many sectors across Scotland. That’s why Respitality in Scotland in partnership with the hospitality industry have joined forces and are offering a number of free activities and short breaks all over Scotland to unpaid carers.
In order to qualify for them, you must be registered as an unpaid carer. If any of the below sparks your interest, get in touch with us by emailing shortbreaks@anguscarers.org.uk and letting us know which activity you are interested in.

The Hut of Wellbeing is an off-grid forest cabin that is located in a hutting community in a woodland setting away from the road, giving guests the opportunity to have a quiet stay close to nature and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is off-grid, with basic facilities, but well-built, comfortable and specially designed for its purpose. The hut is one of what will be fifteen huts of a similar kind spread out through the wood.
The break can be up to 3 nights midweek or over the weekend. The hut is well insulated and has a wood burning stove. Wood is supplied.
Guests must bring their own bedding (a sheet/pillowcase and a duvet/sleeping bag) and food will have to be brought in also.
The hut has one main room, which can be divided into two by a curtain. It has two beds. There is room for extra guests such as children but they would have to bring bedrolls to sleep on the floor. Well-behaved pets and support animals are welcome.
The Hut is not connected to mains water, electricity, gas or internet. Water is available from standpipe nearby, there is a log stove for heating the hut and it has an outdoor kitchen with a gas ring and sink. A composting toilet and a sink are located in a separate room.
The Pillars of Hercules farm shop and café are within 300 metres. The nearby village of Falkland has pubs, shops and visitor attractions and Falkland Estate has an excellent network of walks.
Accessibility: The hut site is on multiple bus routes, with two stops each about 10 minutes walk away. The bus trip is half and hour from Glenrothes, 50 minutes from Cupar and one hour 20 min from Kirkcaldy or St Andrews. Buses also run at weekends and well into the evening. Buses link with Ladybank and Markinch rail stations. For those coming by car the site has its own car park. Cars can be driven up to the hut on a track for dropping off, but they must be returned to the car park to avoid blocking others. There is level access from the track and door widths etc are to standard disability specifications.

Tickets to Scottish Opera
Scottish Opera are running various shows throughout the year and the country. They have advised they are happy to provide tickets on request and where there is suitable availability.

The Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) is offering complimentary tickets to various theatre showings through its Community Ticket Programme. This initiative is designed to widen access to the upcoming Edinburgh Festival Fringe, ensuring more individuals can experience the performances on offer.
In addition to admission, each allocated ticket includes a complimentary beverage voucher, courtesy of the EICC’s catering partner, EICC Nourish.

Hopetoun House is offering complimentary admission to carers for its house and grounds for visits during August and September 2026. This offer is available until Sunday, 27 September 2026, which marks the end of the visitor season.
Please note that Hopetoun House is open Thursday through Monday, and is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Weekly lunch for up to 6 people (term time only)
The City of Glasgow College are delighted to offer a weekly table in their Scholars Restaurant once again.
Bookings are accepted until May 2026, closed for summer, with bookings reopening September 2026.
Restaurant will be open Mondays–Thursdays during term time.
One table, maximum of 6 persons, for lunch, on the available days they are open. Subject to availability.
