Volunteering

Volunteering with Angus Carers

Angus Carers Centre would be very limited if we did not have the support and commitment of volunteers. Over 50 people give their time in a variety of ways. There are lots of reasons to volunteer, to gain new skills or add to existing ones, to give something back or to meet new people. All enjoy it and however little time you have – even two hours a month – you could volunteer and help to make a difference, to not only the life of a carer but your own. Volunteers are ordinary people just like you.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and have the desire to give their time freely to the organisation and understand the challenges that unpaid carers face. We recruit volunteers from the age of 16 and our compliment also includes students, giving them good experience of the caring profession.

Befriending Service

Currently face to face befriending is on hold however we are delivering Volunteer Telephone and also Video Conferencing Befriending to Carers and the Cared for providing a friendly listening ear.

Young Carers Befriending Service

Volunteers support our Young Carers Befriending Programme that provides a safe framework for a time limited befriending relationship between a volunteer and a young carer aged 8-16 year old.

Young Carers Transport

Young Carers (8-18 years) need transport in order to attend the support groups and activities organised to give them support and time off. This could not be done without volunteer drivers.

Young Carer Group Support

Volunteers support the work done by young carer workers. This could be supporting walking groups/ outdoor activities and also online activities.

Families Program

Volunteers provide support to a variety of activities provided to the whole family where there is a child with a disability. The program works with the whole family including siblings, parents and guardians and the aim of the program is also to bring parents together.

Admin Support

Volunteers support the admin staff in a variety of ways. This can give good experience in gaining administrative skills.

Fundraising

Some volunteers enjoy helping us to raise funds through a variety of events and activities. Funds raised help us to provide activities and support for carers.

Specific Skills and Talents

Some carers volunteer using particular expertise. It could be from craft work to hill walking, from IT skills to relaxation techniques. We are particularly looking for volunteers that can deliver groups virtually.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors, who are all volunteers, bring various expertise or experiences of caring.
